8 May is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day—a global day to celebrate the uniqueness and unity of our International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Nigerians have been charged to be part of efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability and progress in the country.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Anambra State Professor Peter Katchy gave the charge during a ceremony to mark the 2022 World Red Cross Day at Nigerian Red Cross Society Headquarters in Amawbia.

Professor Katchy lamented that the present insecurity in the country is a serious threat to national peace as conflict and violence are forcing millions of people to leave their homes and seek for safety elsewhere as internally Displaced Persons in very difficult situations.

He explained that dialogue, treaty and equity are necessary to achieving peace in this present time. He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and people of the state for the successful conduct of last governorship election and for being law abiding on all issues of the State, noting that the success of the election has made Anambra State a reference point and model of rule of law and Democratic principles in Nigeria and beyond.

While thanking the media for supporting goals and aspirations of the Nigerian Red Cross, Professor Katchy called for confirmation of Mr Gab Okpalaeze to ensure steady growth and progress of the establishment.
