2023 : INEC Admits Facing Challenges Uploading Results…

Written by on February 28, 2023

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has admitted facing challenges in uploading the results of presidential and National Assembly elections on its Results Viewing Portal.

It further noted that unlike the situation in off-season elections where the portal is effectively used, it has been relatively slow and unsteady in last weekend’s election.

Its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja, however argued that it is not unusual for glitches to occur and be corrected in such situations.

The commission further blamed the situation on technical hitches related to scaling up the Results Viewing Portal from a platform for managing off-season state elections, to one for managing nationwide general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission assured that these results cannot be tampered with and any discrepancy between them and the physical results used in collation will be thoroughly investigated and remediated, in line with Section sixty-five of the Electoral Act 2022.
