Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has rescued two siblings; aged five and three respectively from their father who was abusing them sexually.

The rescue operation was carried out after a whistle blower reported the incident to the ministry.

The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, through her Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Team, quickly contacted the NSCDCand investigations began.

During the investigation, the children were rescued by the Intelligence Unit of the NSCDC, and the culprit arrested forthwith.

The culprit and father of the victims, Mr Uchenna Nwobi, resident at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, has been detained for child molestation and abuse, and would be charged to court.

It was gathered that the sexual abuse began since 2020 when the culprit started having issues with his wife, which made him send the wife out of the house.

When the children were rescued, they were first taken to Ntasi Centre in Enugwu-Ukwu for medical examinations and treatment, and were ascertained defiled by the doctor on duty.

As at when they were taken to the hospital, there were fresh bruises on their private parts, even as the area was also reddish and swollen.

Speaking with the children who confirmed that they were constantly molested by their father, they pleaded not to return to their father’s house for fear of being severely punished.

Addressing the issue in her office in Awka, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo said both the man and his wife will be charged to court, adding that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring justice for the victims.

She commended NSCDC officials for being pragmatic in handling the case, and warned that anyone caught engaging in such act would be arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the culprit, Mr Nwobi denied the allegation and explained that he was not aware that his children were being defiled by anyone, let alone himself, their biological father, and threatened to deal with whoever made the report.
