Orientation Programme for JSS1, SS1 for Anambra Students Kicks Off At Nnewi

Orientation programme for JSS1, SS1 and transferred students of public secondary schools in Anambra State has been flagged off at Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi.

The programme, jointly organised by Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, drew participants from various education zones in the state, and has Reverend Father Stan Ojimba, Head of Sciences and Technology, PPSSC Nnewi zone, Mrs Salome Ikeanyi, Principal of Abbott Girl’s Secondary School Ihiala, Dr. Mrs Sabina Chukwunedum, and Reverend Sister Dr. Rona Onwuadi as resource persons.

Declaring the event open, the Chairman of Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, reminded the students that having been placed in various classes, they are expected to show seriousness, diligence, hard work and integrity as they adjust to life in their new environment, assuring that PPSSC and ASUBEB, as statutory bodies in charge of management of state-owned schools, are all out to create conducive atmosphere for the students to excel and distinguish themselves academically, socially and morally.

She explained that the theme of the event, “Qualitative education: a panacea for successful future”, is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s emphasis on producing students who are grounded in education, which she noted is necessary for success in life.

On her part, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, charged the students to be diligent in their academic works, especially the practical aspects, and parents and guardians to cooperate with teachers in giving their wards the best for personal development.

Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion, Sir James Ezeonu, who noted that the theme of the event is worth deep reflection, urged participating students, teachers and other stakeholders in education to cooperate with PPSSC and ASUBEB to drive the message of the event to the grassroots.

A participating student from Maria Regina Model Secondary School Nnewi, Miss Chiamaka Ejiakanonu, and another from Anglican Girls’ Secondary School Nnewi, Miss Goodness Obinyeluba, said what they have been taught at the event will help them become better students.

Students of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School Nnewi presented welcome address, while students of Saint Johnbosco Secondary School Unubi performed Odezuligbo cultural dance.

The orientation programme will hold on 15th November for schools in Aguata, Awka and Nnewi education zones, and on 16th November for schools in Ogidi, Onitsha and Otuocha education zones.
