Officers of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) have marked all illegal structures at Eke Awka Market, in Awka South Local Government Area for removal.
Addressing newsmen after the exercise, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko regretted the rates at which unapproved and illegal structures littered the market, which he said is unacceptable to the agency and the Anambra state government, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Mr. Onuko said that Eke Awka Market is the only major market in the state that has no motor park, which is why articulated vehicles pack indiscriminately along all the roads leading to the market, and also cause unavoidable traffic gridlock within the market and equally reduce the road’s lifespan.
The ACTDA boss made it clear that all markets within the capital territory must conform to standards, make provisions for motor parks, as well as other social amenities that are required in a modern and standard market, in line with the Soludo administration’s policy.
