The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has been urged to respect the will of the people by protecting the integrity of the results of Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said the Commission should ensure that the mandate of the people is not subverted in anywhere to justify the confidence reposed in it by the citizens of the country as well as protect the nation’s democracy and political institutions.
He observed that INEC raised the hope of Nigerians during preparations ahead of the elections but regretted that the Commission is not meeting the expectations of the people, pointing out that late arrival of electoral materials in many centres and delay in announcement of results have created room for suspicion.
Chief Okeke-Ogene noted that the electorate during the elections expressed strong desire to take ownership of the country and change the national narrative and cautioned that any attempt to compromise or manipulate the outcome of the elections will have far reaching consequences.
The Ohaneze Ndigbo Vice President enjoined INEC to avoid acts that could threaten the unity of the country and urged Nigerians especially youths to remain calm.
