Anambra State Govt Calls For Collective Efforts Towards Preserving Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife…

Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu has called for all hands to be on deck in the conservation of natural resources, forestry and wildlife, for more friendly environment.

The Commissioner made the call during the first Forestry and Wildlife Symposium, , award presentation and International Day of Forests celebration, organised by the fifth Forestry and Wildlife Students Association, in conjunction with International Forestry Students Association, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Engineer Odimegwu who was represented by Head of Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Ministry of Environment, Anambra State, Mrs Onyinye Achugamonye encouraged the students to put their interest in forestry course and urged the people to join hands in preserving forests in the state for improved ecosystem.

In his opening remark, the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone represented by Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Land and Natural Resources Management, Professor Peter Nnabude said it is a day to sensitize people on environment, forest and wildlife as well as discourage people from deforestation as according to him such practice causes a lot of havoc to the environment and ecosystem.

Professor Esimone who expressed the believe that there will be positive change after the sensitization, challenged the students to show commitment towards conserving the forest.

In their separate speeches, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Nkiru Meludu, Head of Department, Forestry and Wildlife, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr Anselm Egwunatum and Former Head of Department Forestry and Wildlife, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Caleb Ezeano who harped on the need to conserve forest reserve, emphasized the importance of forest in human lives and its renewable nature.
