The member representing Anaocha One Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Ebele Ejiofor has advocated drafting of new constitution to accommodate emerging issues of good governance for greater benefit of the people.

Honourable Ejiofor who expressed concern over the constitution said a new constitution for the country has become necessary in view of the inherent flaws of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The lawmaker made it clear that Nigeria is in dire need of a new constitution that must support devolution of power to the states, equality in revenue sharing formula, creation of state police, rotational presidency among the six geopolitical zones, local government autonomy among others.

Honourable Ejiofor maintained that a country like Nigeria should be strong enough to review her past, access it properly and sincerely, cast honest and proper judgment through a new constitution.

He noted that the current system of governance has failed to solve myriads of problems confronting the country, pointing out that a system of governance that made state governors chief security officers of their states on paper but not so in practical terms must be jettisoned for the benefit of the people.
