Commendations Trail Commissioning Of Second Niger Bridge…

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned and opened for public use, Second Niger Bridge, linking Anambra and Delta States.

President Buhari commissioned the project named after him virtually, six days to the end of his administration.

The bridge is one of the legacy projects of the Buhari administration, hoped to decongest the existing Niger Bridge and connect South-East with the rest of the country as well as boost economic activities of the southern region.

The main bridge, which is one point six kilometers on each carriage way with an approach road of ten point three kilometers and Temporary Access Road of two point four kilometers, has its ground breaking ceremony done on tenth March, 2014 and completed in nine years after.

In his address, President Buhari said his administration is rendering development services to Nigerians and creating economic growth even as his tenure is winding down.

In his address, the minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, noted that realization of Second Niger Bridge and other infrastructure projects are in tandem with President Buhari’s policy to meet Nigerians at the point of their needs and reduce poverty, adding that posterity will not forget his administration.

The Director, Overseeing Office of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Engineer Folorunso Esan, said the project is highly significant for the nation which will aid poverty reduction and improve safety on roads.

In a good will message, the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, represented by Dr Sam Okechukwu, thanked the president for making the bridge a reality, and harped on the need for maintenance culture.

Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, among others.
