Officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority have embarked on the demolition of street shanties and illegal stores defacing the Capital City.

The areas visited by the agency’s officials were Ngozika Housing Estate Road, Club Road, formerly Abakaliki street, as well as Oby Okoli avenue.

Speaking during the raid, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Ossy Onuko, disclosed that the operation will be a sustained effort in line with governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda of making Anambra a livable and prosperous homeland.

Mr. Onuko regretted that despite the numerous warnings by the agency and other agencies of government, traders have continued to construct shanties and trade along road sides, and warned that Awka Capital Territory Development Authority will continue to wage war against impunity in the capital territory.

According to him they will continue to discharge their duties without fear or favour and warned against all forms of street trading, erection of shanties and building on top of water channels.

Recall that the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Information, made a public announcement banning all forms of street trading and building of shanties across the State.
