The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has issued a warning regarding an impending flood disaster that could affect seven local government areas within the state.
The at-risk local government areas include Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Jema’a, Sanga, Igabi, Kagarko, and Jaba.
KADSEMA’s new Executive Secretary, Usman Mazadu, gave the warning shortly after taking over from his predecessor on Wednesday, calling on residents of flood-prone areas to temporarily relocate to safer places.
Mazadu urged residents to refrain from indiscriminate disposal of refuse and other waste materials into waterways and drainage systems, as this could worsen the flooding menace during the upcoming rainy season.
He also called on the residents to imbibe the habit of clearing gutters and drainages in their communities to guard against flooding.
Mazadu stated that KADSEMA is in the final stages of formulating a comprehensive action plan.
He added that the plan would serve as a strategic framework to mitigate any potential flood disasters that may unfold across various parts of Kaduna State.
