As the global community celebrated International Day of Charity yesterday, Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has explained that most of the problems faced by present society have remained unsolved largely because the values of love and compassion have been suppressed.
Mrs. Soludo who stated this in Awka in a statement released to commemorate the annual event, observed that if the world should embrace love, the aspirations for unified, progressive and peaceful community will begin to have tremendous effects.
She noted that the event which is used to celebrate and honour the humanitarian and missionary works of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, calls for sincere introspection from everyone with regards to what one is doing to promote love in their own little domains.
The Governor’s wife stated that the life and times of Mother Teresa, serve as close and most exceptional reference for anyone seeking to live for others in the most selfless manner, pointing out that everyone has a vital role to play in using the tool of love to fix the world.
Mrs. Soludo also urged parents, guardians and other caregivers to begin early to teach children the meaning and essence of showing love to one another, with the assurance that they will transmit the positive effects to future generations.
She maintained that social menaces and decline in morality thrived basically because the foundational blocks of love and kindness are weak, urging parents and leaders to live the life of love for the younger generation to live by.
International Day of Charity celebrates the charitable works of Mother Teresa, and is held on September 5 of every year, same date that the icon of love died in 1997 at the age of eighty-seven.
