Anambra Fire Chief Urges Residents To Clear Grasses In Surroundings To Prevent Fire… 

As the dry season gradually sets in, the Anambra State Chief Fire Officer, Engineer Martin Agbili, has advised residents of the state to embark on early weeding of grass in their surroundings to avoid possible fire spread.

Engineer Agbili said that early cleanup of overgrown grass around houses, business places and markets is the first precautionary measure that should be taken by all before the arrival of harmattan season.

On how to curtail fire outbreaks during the season, Engineer Agbili advised people to cut grasses around their houses at least twenty feet away, ensure that gas cylinders are always kept outside, switch off all electrical appliances when not in use to avoid power surge; in order to prevent loss of lives and property.

Engineer Agbili urged companies, markets and other establishments in the state to reach out to the agency for a fire readiness audit and surveillance, and for servicing of their fire equipment as a way to be prepared against any eventuality.

He added that the agency will engage in training and retraining of workers and students to be able to mitigate fire incidents in their areas.

The Anambra State Fire Chief further called on residents to call the emergency line 0-9-0-7-7-0-4-4-4-1-0 in the event of any fire incident.
