Anambra State Assembly Passes 2024 Appropriation Bill… 

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of four hundred and ten billion naira for the services of the state government.

The House passed the 2024 budget estimate during yesterday’s plenary in Awka.

The 2024 Appropriation Bill was passed at the Committee of the whole following the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

While presenting the report, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu explained that the budget size remained unchanged but allocations to some Ministries were reduced while others were increased based on the priority of the state government and to meet the needs of the people.

The committee recommended that funds should be released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies for optimum budget performance.

They also recommended that a proper scale of preference should be adopted by MDA’S during budgeting in order to achieve a realistic budget among others.

Thereafter, the Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze read out the budget for passage, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.

Commenting on the 2024 budget christened “Changing Gears, The Transformation Agenda Begins “, the member representing Nnewi South One Constituency, Honourable Nonso Atuchukwu commended the timely passage of the 2024 budget, which he said will meet the development needs of Anambra State.

The legislator assured that the House will embark on oversight next year to see that all the approvals they gave in the budget are fully implemented by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Also at plenary, Anambra State Factory Workers Safety Bill 2023 sponsored by the member representing Ihiala Constituency Two, Honourable Golden Iloh scaled first reading.
