Ukraine-Russia war: FG to airlift 2,000 Nigerians, evacuation begins Wednesday

FG to airlift 2,000 Nigerians who have fled the war in Ukraine to neighbouring countries from Wednesday begin the evacuation of about 2,000 Nigerians The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who disclosed this in an interview to newsmen revealed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had approved funds for the airlines to evacuate Nigerians using Air peace and Max Air.

Onyeama argued that it was not the sole duty of the Federal Government to evacuate Nigerians that were stranded abroad because this was not the global practice. He said people who use their own money to travel abroad ought to be able to return home by themselves.

Meanwhile,More than 182 Nigerians fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have arrived safely in Romania, Hungary and Poland in the last 24 hours.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary in the Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gabriel Aduda, who assured that the government was making adequate arrangements to evacuate all Nigerians in safety and dignity.

According to Aduda, Nigerian officials in Warsaw, Poland, have received 52 Nigerians adding that 23 were being processed by the Polish Government Reception Point at Hala Kijowska camp, Milny.

Milny is near the border of Korczowa- Krakowiee, he noted, adding that the camp is well organised with beddings, food, heating, clothing and medicals for evacuees.
