Anambra State Govt Intensifies Waste Disposal In Awka And Environs

Anambra State Government has continued to make concrete efforts in disposing heaps of waste at various points in Awka and its environs.

This is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s resolve to providing a healthy environment as a key to building sustainable smart megacity and livable homeland.

For the past one month, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and the waste Evacuation and desilting of drainages team , including the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu have embarked on rigorous exercise, toiling day and night to ensure a healthy, clean, and aesthetic environment.

It is regrettable however that after maintaining a fair routine evacuation of waste heaps at respective areas, the efforts are challenged by reckless attitudes of inhabitants to waste management practices.

Speaking after inspecting evacuation of wastes along Ngozika Estate Awka, Hausa Quarters Amawbia, and Ngeneoka Nise, Dr. Ibezim urged the residents to shun indiscriminate refuge dumps, but to dispose their garbages inside the waste bin provided by the government.

He advised the people to support the efforts of the governor by being law-abiding.

According to the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma the government has initiated plans to embark on a holistic intervention on roads in the state.
