Anambra State Justice Sector Reform Team Seeks Speedy Assent To Administration Of Criminal Justice Law, Others

The Anambra State Justice Sector Reform team has asked for speedy assent to administration of criminal justice law and criminal code laws in the State.

The team made the appeal during a congratulatory visit to the Attorney General of Anambra State and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Chika Ifemeje in Awka.

The Justice Sector Reform is a series of projects to support the efforts of the Nigerian government and its partners in improving justice delivery through research, strategic planning, policy and legislative reform, technical advisory services and mentoring, as well as extensive capacity building in the justice sector.

While asking the Anambra State House of Assembly to grant passage to the reviewed 2010 Administration of Criminal Justice Law already sent to the legislature, the group said that the amendment became necessary because of flaws in certain areas.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Anambra State Justice Sector Reform Team, Justice Peter Obiorah, who noted that law is the foundation for which innovations are made, appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to see to the passage of the ACJL and Criminal Code Law which have timeline for hearing of criminal matters and are in tune with modernization.

He commended the governor for his love for administration of justice, evident in his visit to the Ekwulobia correctional facility, barely twenty-four hours after his swearing in.

Receiving the team, Professor Ifemeje assured that justice reform is top on the goals of Professor Soludo’s administration, and expressed delight with the credibility of individuals in the visiting team, which he said, showed their love for positive change and promised that the Ministry will interface with the State House of Assembly to streamline all related pending bills.
