2023: COAS reads riot act to soldiers, officers
Written by on June 14, 2022
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has ordered soldiers and officers to shun all forms of partisanship in the 2023 electoral process.
He ordered the review of rules of engagement and code of conduct for Operation Safe Conduct for soldiers during the 2023 general elections.
Operation Safe Conduct is a military exercise designed to safeguard the electoral process by the Army hierarchy.
Yahaya handed the order at the second quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja.
He also charged personnel to remain apolitical while providing enabling environment for the electoral process.
He observed the successes achieved in military operations were facilitated by the commitment of the political leadership towards enhancing operational competences of the Nigerian Army as well as it’s general logistics, welfare, and wellbeing of the troops.
Yahaya said troops in the North East of Operation HADIN KAI have sustained the onslaught against the terrorists leading to the clearance of the several criminal enclaves and the surrendering of large numbers of insurgents and their families.
He stated that concrete effort has also been made to contain and checkmate the secessionist activities in the Southeast and illegal oil bunkery activities in the South-South.
