Anambra State Government is to introduce house to house refuse pickups to rid the state of indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Awka.
Engineer Odimegwu emphasized that the initiative will see his Ministry in couple of months remove many of the dumpsites in the streets which will be used as raw materials for other bye products and provide every household with waste bins for easy evacuation of refuse.
To achieve this, the Commissioner said the state government is in talks with some companies that deal in waste recycling to take up the project, assuring that when these companies start working, refuse dump in the streets will be a thing of the past as it will encourage Ndi Anambra to turn their refuse into value.
Engineer Odimegwu expressed optimism that when these plans are fully articulated and put in motion, Governor Soludo’s mantra of achieving a clean, livable, prosperous mega City will be realised.
