Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works has called for adequate funding of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri to guarantee efficient service delivery.

The committee made the call when it embarked on oversight function to the airport. The committee which spoke through its Chairman, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma explained what they came for on-the-spot assessment of the edifice with a view to ascertaining its condition.

The committee stressed the need for the state government to address some issues hindering the smooth running of the airport for the benefit of the state. In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Mr. Emeka Nwafor while commending the committee for showing concern regarding some challenges confronting the airport, urged the state government to take urgent steps to arrest erosion menace threatening to cave in the airport runway.

On his part, a member of the committee, Dr. Carter Umeoduagu, applauded the management and staff of the airport for being dedicated to duty, adding that adequate maintenance of the airport will enable it serve Ndi Anambra better and generate more income to the state.
