Anambra State Assembly Seeks Promotion Of Technical Education…

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh to encourage more technical education in Anambra State.

The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu during plenary.

Honourable Okechukwu emphasized that the introduction of technical education in Anambra State curriculum of education will help young ones to acquire one or two skills that will be beneficial to them after school.

The legislator said that if Anambra State education system is gradually shifted from theory based to skills based, classical technological revolution will soon be experienced in the state.

On his part, the Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Ikenna Ofodeme who is a beneficiary of technical education revealed that technological breakthrough could be achieved majorly by encouraging young ones to learn technical subjects, which he said can make them employers of labour, self-dependent and stop them from looking for jobs after school.

In their contributions, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Augustine Ike, his Anambra East Constituency counterpart, Honourable Obi Nweke and the member for Njikoka Constituency One, Honourable Chidi Ibemeka noted that the introduction of technical education in the state’s education system will address unemployment among youths, reduce crime to the barest minimum and transform the state’s economy.

Also at the plenary, the member representing Aguata Constituency One, Honourable Anayor Okpalaeke commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for declaring free education in public schools from nursery school to JS 3, which he said will help children from poor families to access quality education in the state.
