Anambra State Govt Repeats Call On FG To Intervene On Erosion Menace…

Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called for urgent intervention of the federal government on the multiple erosion sites on the popular Onitsha/Owerri road by Oba and Ozubulu.

Deputy Governor Ibezim made the call when he recently visited the sites.

It was observed that the erosion which created big ditches on the road, has already divided the federal road into two, leaving just a little space for the road users whose lives are under threat in using the route.

It was also noticed that if urgent intervention is not taken by relevant authorities, that in few weeks or days, travelers will no longer access the popular Onitsha/Owerri road as the expressway will be totally cut off.

Deputy Governor Ibezim who regretted the devastation caused already on the road by erosion, appealed to the federal government to urgently do the needful and intervene on the three erosion sites on the road to save people in the area from untold hardship and prevent lose of life and property.

Explaining that the devastation on the road is beyond the state government, Dr Ibezim noted that the road is one of the major federal roads in southeast and contributes much to the economy of the zone, saying that the federal government should as a matter of urgency intervene on the road to save the zone from impending economic lose.

For a road user and resident in the area, Mr Oluchukwu Chukwuneta, government should urgently come to their aid as he explained that the erosion has caused a lot of havoc in the area already, ranging from loss of properties to loss of life, disclosing that some people in a vehicle fell into one of the ditches few days ago during a heavy downpour.
