Anambra State Govt To Embark On Old People’s Home Scheme… 

Government of Anambra State says it will invest in constructing a home for the elderly and old.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated this when he spent a day with elderly, vulnerable and people living with disabilities, at Emmaus House, Awka.

The event which drew a large crowd of old people and the disabled from all parts of the state, was also used to celebrate the Ukpo-born Engineer Arthur Eze who clocked seventy-five years of age.

According to Governor Soludo, the state government already acquired five hectares of land for the old people’s home project, to help take care of the vulnerable who do not have people to take care of them and muted the idea of naming of the buildings in the proposed complex after Engineer Eze.

The Governor emphasized that the present administration is passionate about the welfare of the elderly, poor and vulnerable people which is why government policies are targeted at them in terms of provision of free basic education, free antenatal and delivery services, among others.

He described Engineer Eze as someone who has been living a life of charity and philanthropy and explained that the state government thought it fit to celebrate Arthur Eze’s birthday with the very people for whom he has lived much of his life.

While stressing that his government is pursuing a state with zero poverty, the Governor added that it is good to celebrate the best when they are still alive, assuring that such ceremonies will become regular in the state.

An inter-denominational service was used to herald the event attended by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Anglican Diocese Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, other Anglican bishops, Methodist Clerics and Pentecostal Bishops among others.

Responding, Engineer Eze said that God gave Soludo eight years and urged people to support his government and called on the Governor to use his meticulous disposition and prowess to help solve the many problems bedeviling the society.
