Anambra State Govt Urges Onitsha Landlords To Facelift Degenerated Buildings… 

Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, has said that it is incumbent on landlords in Onitsha to complement government’s efforts by facelifting their degenerated buildings; given that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has spent so much money doing up the dilapidated road network of the commercial city.

In a statement in Awka, the Information Commissioner described Onitsha as the major gateway to Anambra State, reason the urban town needs a complete renewal of its environment for the state to truly earn her rank as the “light of the nation”.

He said with the planned regeneration, it is no longer acceptable that drainages and gutters are left under-silted and clogged; with the obvious consequences when it rains.

Commissioner Nwosu also maintained that soakaways not being properly channeled to the right places must be done away for good, as they end up polluting the environment and threatening the populace with all manner of infectious diseases.

The Information Commissioner expressed concern that the frontage and facades of Onitsha buildings are choked with batchers, old containers and illegal structures being used as shops and workshops by artisans, which he said are antithetical to the kind of quality cities Governor Soludo plans for Anambra State.

He stated that in the bid to improve the ambience and aesthetic appearance of Anambra streets and neighbourhoods, the state government has introduced a house re-painting challenge tagged “Ka Anambra Chakee”, which began from first February, and will run till tenth March 2024.

Sir Paul stated that the state government intends to begin to rate and score houses and compounds that are responding to the administrations call for property makeover, cleanliness of compounds and maintaining the necessary set-backs with greeneries.

He stated that streets in the state will be judged on 3-key criteria such as house re-painting, clean environment and clear drainage, as well as houses that have planted approved trees, adding that the streets capable of initiating and finishing the re-painting of houses within their vicinity by tenth March will have the opportunity to receive ten million naira for first position, five million naira for second position and three million naira for third position.
