Army to deploy 2,300 for Imo guber… 

No fewer than 2,300 soldiers would be deployed for the Imo Sate governorship election on November, 11.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Agu, disclosed this, yesterday, during a media roundtable/engagement on the governorship election organised by the International Press Centre (IPC) and supported by the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria- phase 2 in Owerri.

Agu said the commission got the assurance of the troops availability after it visited the 34 Artillery Brigade,Obinze, Brigadier Gen. Usman Lawal.

On the last presidential and National Assembly election in the state, she said there were flaws but caused by adhoc staff who she claimed declined to participate on the eve of the election over alleged security issues.

Agu equally slammed her critics who have questioned the result of the State Assembly elections cleared by the All Progressive Congress (APC),described as ‘magic’ ,winning 25 out of 27 seats. She maintained that their commission remained unbias in the said election.

The REC assured of the readiness of her commission to conduct the November 11 governorship election in the state. She said all modalities for the election is almost being taken care of.

In his remarks at the event, Akin Akingbolu, executive director, Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) enjoined journalists covering the election to maintain fairness, balance and impartiality in their reportage.
