EFCC arraigns Katsina deputy accountant-general over N261m fraud…

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, arraigned Deputy Accountant General of Katsina State, Sa’adu Maiwada, alongside Sani Lawal before Justice M.S. Abubakar of Federal High Court, Katsina, on two counts of conspiracy and money laundering.
Also arraigned with the defendants is a company, Integrated Gas Services Limited, which has the 1st defendant as Managing Director.
The defendant, in his capacity as then Sub-Treasurer and Deputy Sub-Treasurer in the office of Accountant General of Katsina, allegedly colluded with others and diverted N261,869, 824 from the state’s coffers.
The funds were allegedly laundered through Integrated Gas Services Limited.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the court entered a ‘not guilty’ plea for the 3rd defendant, Integrated Gas Services Limited.
In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel, Aisha Habib, asked the court for a trial date.
Counsel representing the defendants, J.P. Israel, applied for bail on behalf of his clients and prayed the court to grant them same.
Abubakar granted the defendants bail in the sum N50 million each with two sureties, who must be Katsina residents.
The defendants were ordered to deposit their international passports with the court registry.
The matter was adjourned till October 19, 2023 for trial.
