The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, on Thursday, declared the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party as winners of the local government election held across the 17 state council areas and 260 councillorship wards on Wednesday.

it had reported that the election was marred by apathy and violent attacks in some parts of the state which led to the killing of no fewer than eight persons.

Announcing the results of the election, the chairman of the electoral commission, Mike Ajogu (SAN), commended voters for participating in the election.

Ajogu, who announced that the candidates of the PDP emerged winners in the chairmanship elections and 260 councillorship wards claimed that the election was free, fair, and credible, adding the turnout of voters was impressive. He subsequently issued the winners their certificate of return
