FG inaugurates Nigerian Shippers’ Council governing board

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, Thursday, inaugurated Nigerian Shippers’ Council Governing Board with the charge to foster a robust, accountable and result-driven economy in line with global best practices.

Sambo while inaugurating the board in Abuja reminded members not to forget that the council is vested with “the responsibility of providing a forum for the protection of the interest of shippers on matters affecting the shipment of imports and exports to and from Nigeria  as well as liaising with the appropriate arms of the government  of the federation and other organizations in assessing the stability and adequacy of existing services and make appropriate recommendations.”

Sambo while urging the board to maintain harmonious working relationship with the management of the council, expressed confidence in the ability of the board members to deploy their expertise to promote prudence, transparency, accountability, equity and fairness in the discharge of their responsibilities, while also urging them to shun corruption.

In his brief remarks, chairman of the newly constituted board, Lawal Sama’aila Abdullahi thanked the federal government for the opportunity, assuring that the board would deliver on its mandate.

Other members of the board include Rufai Akambi, Usen Udoh, Oluseyin Oduntan, Violet Williams, Mohammed Kam-Salem and Emmanuel Jime who doubles as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
