The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has cautioned health workers against abuse of the free antenatal care and free delivery which was declared by Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently in his bid to ameliorate the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Dr. Obidike said that the Governor’s good intention for every pregnant woman across the state should not be taken for granted, as anyone found demanding money or diverting materials or drugs would face serious sanctions, as the idea is for every woman to receive the free services from all the Primary Healthcare Centres and General Hospitals across the state.

The Commissioner revealed that after the pronouncement by the Governor, he had an emergency meeting with the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem, including all the Directors, instructing them on how to monitor the exercise.

Dr. Obidike noted that the commitment of Governor Soludo’s administration in providing the public with comprehensive healthcare services cannot be overemphasized, and urged health workers in the state to ensure seamless execution of the four months free antenatal and delivery exercise.

He then appealed to Ndi Anambra to help in monitoring the exercise in their various localities and if they discover any irregularity, they should immediately raise alarm or report to the ministry for immediate action to be taken.
