Mrs Soludo Urges Parents To Inculcate Cultural Values In Children… 

Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Mrs Nonye Soludo has urged parents and guardians to be intentional in teaching their children and wards the need to appreciate their cultural heritage.

Mrs Soludo, who spoke in Awka, noted that the existential threats faced by native languages and tradition can be averted if parents and custodians of tradition take more conscious steps to save the drift.

According to the governor’s wife, there is need for urgent intervention to save the Igbo language and culture from total extinction, pointing out that a large responsibility falls on parents to groom their children to appreciate the uniqueness of their languages, tradition and cultural distinctions.

She stated that the first step is to raise the younger generation to see culture as a foundation of social existence and to teach them to promote it proudly wherever they find themselves.

Mrs Soludo noted that Igbo language must be protected, explaining that one way to rebuild the language and cultural status of Ndigbo is to propagate the beauty and uniqueness, as well as interpreting basic social rites into local dialects.

The governor’s wife further called for abolition of modern classroom culture that lays emphasis on speaking foreign languages that put Igbo language in danger, advocating enforcement of Igbo language in educational and social conversations.

She suggested the promulgation of laws to make Igbo language a compulsory subject in schools and called on social crusaders to put in more efforts to restore Igbo language and culture to their glory.
