One Mr Kenneth Nwangwu of Akama village, Igbo-ukwu has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling his daughter.
The arrest was carried out after a tip off by a whistleblower.
The forty-year-old Kenneth was accused of child defilement but the suspect who is currently in police custody at the state CID Awka says he has never had carnal knowledge of his daughter.
The suspect said that it is unfortunate that his enemies are plotting his downfall.
The suspect denied every allegation leveled against him but after a medical examination on the nine-year-old, it was discovered that there was defilement.
A further investigation revealed that the forty-year-old suspect has nothing tangible doing for a living and has been the only parent of her daughter since his ex-wife left them many years ago.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo says she is ready to see the case through and get justice for the minor.
The Women and Social Welfare Commissioner also decried the high rate of defilement cases in the state and encouraged people to always say something when they see something.
She stated that cases already transferred to the state High Court will receive speedy justice delivery as the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence High Court will start sitting soon.
