Police Nab Suspected Arms Dealers In Onitsha, Recover Guns, Live Cartridges… 

The Police in Anambra State have arrested major arms dealer dealing illegally on prohibited Firearms in the State.

The breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the Command.

A statement by the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said that a total of twenty-three Automatic Pump Action Guns and six hundred and twenty-five live cartridges were recovered.

It added that so far, three suspects have been arrested in Onitsha while investigation is being expanded.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye commended the operatives involved in the operation on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, who provided guidance throughout the operation.

In another development, Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Aderemi Adeoye has warned that the State Police Command will not condone the reckless resort to jungle justice by anyone or group in the State.

In a release signed by the commands Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner described any mob that lynches Crime suspects as beasts noting that any group that resorts to Jungle justice are worse than the suspects they lynch.

The release added that those who lynch suspects commit murder which carries the death penalty as the Courts have not delegated anyone outside the Judiciary to try, convict and execute suspects.

The Commissioner advised all aggrieved persons to take their cases to the Police and if they did not get justice to contact his office directly.

He assured the people of Anambra State that the Command will always be alive to its responsibility in maintaining law and order, emphasizing that recourse to self-help will not be tolerated.
