Real Madrid vs PSG: Benzema hat-trick knocks Messi, Neymar, Mbappe out of Champions League

Written by on March 10, 2022

Karim Benzema’s second half hat-trick sent Real Madrid into the next round of the UEFA Champions League on a night PSG clearly showed a lack of leadership in every area of their performance.

It was Benzema’s third Champions League hat-trick and what a time it was to score it.

PSG were as good as qualified when Mbappe put them ahead to extend the aggregate lead and only had to stop Madrid from scoring thrice – a task that became herculean and reminds of the side’s misery in Champions League football.

On the other hand,Manchester City strolled into the Champions League quarter-finals for the fifth consecutive season with a 5-0 aggregate win over Sporting Lisbon despite a subdued 0-0 draw on Wednesday.

All the hard work for the English champions was done in the Portuguese capital three weeks ago.

City are on course for a fourth Premier League title in five seasons, but the Champions League has so far remained out of reach despite the billions invested by the club’s Abu Dhabi owners.
