Road Accident Claims Five Lives In Enugu

Five persons were confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred at CBN Bus Stop, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
Our correspondent gathered that the accident which occurred on Thursday was a result of a dangerous overtake.
An eyewitness account who spoke on condition of anonymity said an 18-seater bus with Enugu registration number, XL884 ENU ran into an incoming trailer carrying bags of cement.
According to him, the vehicle, which was loaded from Abakpa, in Enugu East local government was headed to New Market when the fatal accident occurred.
He said the driver was coming from Abakpa and made attempt to overtake another vehicle in his front that was emitting too much carbon monoxide.
“As he made attempt to overtake the vehicle, the trailer was very close and the next thing we heard was a loud sound and the bus was completely damaged. I don’t know how many survived but I counted over 8 dead bodies on the floor,” the eyewitness who gave his name as Chukwudi said.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu State command, Mr. Joseph Toby who confirmed the accident said 20 people were involved in the accident and 5 people were confirmed dead.
He said the remaining 15 victims who sustained injuries were taken to University Teaching Hospital and Parklane hospital Enugu for treatment while the 5 corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.
